PA 1" TJ Body Lift Installation

The following are the installation instructions that come with Performance Accessories 1" Body Lift kit for 1997-2002 TJ Wrangler.

When I bought the kit, the instructions stated they were for the 2" or 3" body lift kit.  I called PA and asked for instructions for a 1" kit and was told, "ignore the sections that don't apply."  When I asked which sections those were, I was told, "gee, I don't know ... you'll figure it out."  I did figure it out, so the sections that only pertain to 2" and 3" body lift kits have been removed.

  1. Read instructions completely. Check kit contents against parts list.
  2. Park vehicle on flat surface and block tires.
  3. Disconnect battery cables, disconnecting negative cable first. Remove airbag fuse from fuse box.
  4. Remove plastic ‘Jeep’ cover that mounts to the frame in front of the grill.
  5. Remove the shifter knob. Remove outer shift boot. Remove two console screws and remove console. Remove screws that mount lower shift boot and transfer case shift housing to floorboard. Remove screws that mount floorpan to floorboard and remove floorpan, being careful not to damage adhesive backing.
  6. DISREGARD – only applies to 2” & 3” kits
  7. Remove lower transfer case linkage from pivot assembly. Remove bolts attaching pivot assembly to transfer case and body; remove pivot assembly.
  8. Loosen clamps and remove air intake hose connecting air filter assembly and throttle body.
  9. Disconnect radiator overflow hose and disconnect from fan shroud. Remove four bolts attaching fan shroud to radiator. Remove all 6 radiator mounting bolts.
  10. DISREGARD – only applies to 2” & 3” kits
  11. Disconnect brake booster vacuum hose.
  12. Remove fuel filler cap. Remove screws that mount fuel filler neck to housing and housing to body. Remove fuel filler housing.
  13. Loosen, but do not remove all 11 body mounting bolts (1 in center of grill, 3 on each side under doors, 1 on each side behind rear wheels, 2 on rear frame rail).
  14. Remove body mounting bolts from passenger side (5 bolts) and front center (1 bolt). Using a hydraulic jack and wooden block, slowly lift passenger side of body just high enough to insert spacers, being sure to watch for wires, hoses, cables, etc. that may be binding. The large spacers (3” diameter) go on the frame rail mounts under the front floorboard (1 per side). Install new body mounting bolts, being sure to replace original rubber bushing below spacers, but do not tighten. [Front center = 7/16” x 3-1/2”, three side mounts = 1/2" x 4-1/2”, two rear mounts = 7/16” x 3-1/2”]
  15. Repeat steps for driver’s side of vehicle. Install front center spacer and mounting bolt. Tighten all 11 body mounting bolts.
  16. DISREGARD – only applies to 2” & 3” kits
  17. Attach new transfer case linkage pivot relocating bracket to existing pivot. Install transfer case shift linkage and pivot assembly in vehicle. Reconnect transfer case shifter and linkages, leaving shifter loose.
  18. DISREGARD – only applies to 2” & 3” kits
  19. Reinstall floorpan cover. Tighten transfer case shifter. Reinstall lower shifter boot and transfer case shifter housing. Reinstall console. Reinstall outer shift boot. Reinstall shifter knob.
  20. Using stock hardware, mount the six radiator drop-down brackets to core support. Mount radiator to drop-down brackets using 1/4" washers and lock nuts, but do not tighten. Reattach fan shroud. Adjust fan-to-fan shroud clearance, then tighten all mounting bolts. Reconnect radiator overflow hose.
  21. Reconnect brake booster vacuum hose.
  22. Reinstall fuel tank filler housing.
  23. Reinstall plastic ‘Jeep’ cover that mounts to the frame in front of the grill.
  24. Reconnect both battery terminals. Replace airbag fuse in fuse box.
  25. Install warning stick on visor.
  26. Double check everything! Check transmission and transfer case shifter operation. Check fan to fan shroud clearance. Check for any wires, hoses, cables, etc. for binding. Check steering operation for binding.
