1984 CJ7 Trail Rig

My trail rig is a 1984 CJ-7 Renegade.  This CJ came from the factory with a 4.2L (258ci) inline six, T-5 5-speed tranny, Dana 300 transfer case AMC 20 rear axle & Dana 30 front axle.

Before

Current (as of 6-01-2002)

When I bought this beast it was pretty much stock.  The top had a huge hole and the carpet was rotten, but it was in good mechanical and cosmetic condition - the frame was solid and the body was straight and rust-free.   It had 31" tires on the stock white wagon wheel rims.

Modifications to date include:
* Bestop SuperTop
* Garvin Wilderness bumpers w/ recovery D-rings & spare carrier
* Custom rocker sliders (built by Mike Green)
* Full 6 point custom roll cage with frame tie-in (built by Russ Baer at Baertrax)
* 4" BDS Suspension lift
* Con-Ferr 3/8" lift heavy duty shackles
* 1" Performance Accessories body lift
* Superior heavy duty front axles with 297 u-joints
* Superior heavy duty one-piece rear axles
* Superior 4.56 gears front & rear
* Detroit lockers front & rear
* Baertrax Buttface front differential skid
* Tom Wood's custom CV driveshaft
* Warn premium hub conversion
* B&M Ripper short-throw shifter
* Currie Twin-stick shifter for Dana 300
* 35"x12.5x15R" Goodyear MT/R tires on 15"x10" American Racing AR-767 rims
* Ford TFI Ignition Upgrade
* Howell Throttle Body Fuel Injection
* Corbeau Baja SS seats
* Clocked transfer case
* U-bolt flip
* Herculined tub
* Uniden Pro 520 CB Radio with 48" K-40 fiberglass antenna
* Warn XD9000i winch
* Trail kit

Planned modifications include:
* Move tie rod & drag link to top of knuckles
* Chevy heater blower upgrade (have the parts - just need the time)
* Belly-up skid plate
* TeraLow 4.0:1 conversion for transfer case (73:1 crawl ratio)
* On-board air compressor (have the compressor, scrounging the tank & other parts)
* Free-flowing exhaust

The current drivetrain configuration (T-5, Dana 300, 4.56 gears) provides a crawl ratio of 48:1 ... better than the stock 32:1, but no great shakes ... for a diary of the modifications, see my updates page.
